Welcome to Garriott Genealogy

Welcome to the Garriott Family Genealogy Site (one of several). This site aims to present BASIC Garriott genealogy information visually for as many Garriotts as possible. In reality, it focusses on as many Garriotts as I've had time to enter. There is a certain focus on the Garriotts in Canada (don't run away yet Americans!) since I hang from that branch, but there are MANY more American Garriotts out there, so they outnumber the Canucks on this site. I endeavored to begin this site because I was curious like you. However, I haven't really done proper research; I've only found the time to begin compiling a database using the careful research that other, more serious genealogy-hounds have done. I've also done a little digging to learn about the coat of arms presented on the title-page which were registered for a Garriott in France. (for images and info on the coat of arms, click here.

It is my hope that this website will one day give you a clear view of as much of the greater Garriott family tree as possible. Of course this is impossible without help from other Garriotts and family members like YOU. I will NOT cram the site with advertisements, banners, advanced search tools, chat rooms, photo galleries, and other genealogy - friendly things. I leave other Garriott genealogy pages to handle those. If you really want the mind-boggling array of buttons, tools, downloads, and other goodies, just click on the above link. I intend to present simple, clean (I'm an artist) lists, and descendant trees; that's what most people really want at the end of the day, yet it's hard to find online. Most online trees are limited to small pedegree charts which do not give an exciting view of your roots. Large family tree graphics take up too much memory and HTML is difficult to manipulate to create trees. After A LOT of trial and error, I found a way to combine HTML and very small graphics to manage the job and so now you can view an extensive (and growing) Garriott Family Tree - the first ever online in fact.

This tree grows, albeit slowly (it's a painstaking process) as I add more linked trees to already existing ones. I've started with our common ancestors and constructed a view of the tree down my branch. Now I'm going back and adding branches further up the tree. I am also linking descendant lists for distant relatives. Info from YOU, and any feedback would be very gladly received - thank you! My Garriott database grew from 300 to about 430 Garriotts thanks to Gary Petersen. I could go on and on with my lists and trees, so to keep it simple I have followed the descendants of Garriotts only and included full names, spouses, and dates (birth & death).

). Generations are numbered -1 to 8 (where Ambrose S Garriott is generation #1 since nearly all living Garriotts in North America trace their ancestry to him. I know almost nothing of James' descendants and know of only one daughter to Moses). All immediate children of Garriotts are shown whether Garriott or not.
